Graf writers in the city of San Jose are about to feel the heat as Mayor Ron Gonzales announced his plans to crack down on folks. Entitled 'Tag You Lose', Gonzales noted that law enforcement from 15 cities in the South Bay and Santa Clara County will be aggressively going after taggers. Penalties will include kids losing their license and made to clean up heavily grafited areas and keep them clean for an entire year. Their parents will be held responsible and may also be fined. More the 350 thousand dollars has been put into to this new anti-graffiti program.
Gonzales when asked if he was unfairly tagging graf writers, said 'No' as he pointed out that Santa Clara county has an array of extensive art programs where kids can hone their crafts. Over the past couple of years, San Jose has hosted a number of graf exhibitions including one recently held by Scape One.
This new crack down on graf writers comes at the heels of proposed legislation before the California State Senate which will make 400 dollars worth of graffiti damage a felony. This crack down was exceberated by a tagger who was just recently arrested. The gentleman in question has been accused of 86 buildings including the city's anti-graffiti building. We'll keep you posted as this develops.
